- This book is very short but extremely relevant. If you superimposed today's struggle with ISIS on the content of the book, the US and our allies would represent the Turks and ISIS would represent the mobile Arab factions fighting the Turks. The Turks were conventional forces tied to rail and sea lanes for support while Lawrence and the Arab forces were mobile guerillas striking unexpectedly and retreating into sanctuaries in the desert. Lawrence won in tactical terms, but then the Treaty of Versailles carved the region up with artificial boundaries, giving Syria to the French and what became Iraq to the British. These boundaries did not consider ethnicity or religious sect affiliation, the root cause of today's conflict.

- As one who grew up a intrigued by T.E. Lawrence thanks to the movie, I have always found him fascinating. This monograph by him left me quite impressed by his study of warfare and his own opinions of irregular warfare. For some reason, I had always taken him as a bit of an amateur at war, but the depth of his readings and analysis revealed here shows he was quite a bit more than that/
- Defines how to engage in a guerrilla war, from a conflict almost 100 years ago
Written before the Middle East was divided up into the countries we have today
Everything Lawrence describes in this book still applies to conflicts we're engaged in today in the same part of the world. - The book is about the conflict among Arabs and Turks during the WWI and it's a brilliant description of a guerrilla war. If you change the Bedouin's camels and their bags of flour for Vietnamese bicycles with their bags of rice, it becomes clear that General Giap certainly has read Lawrence.
Lawrence was a terrific military strategist, and The Evolution of a Revolt is a small masterpiece in its analyses about the ways men can wage war.
Claudio Carina - Absolutely amazing read, It's no wonder He was so brilliant at leading them subtlety. very smart cookie indeed.
A must read for all schools etc. I feel this book would also broaden their outlook on how revolts are managed without much blood shed. - It's a good book, but funny that every 50 years, there is a new book on guerilla war which repeats what all the old books said.
- I recommend Lawrence's treatise on the history of the Middle East. This is a definite must-read to understanding the Middle Eastern mind and thought process, so vital in today's tenuous world.
