Simple Friendships II 14 Fabulous Quilts from Blocks Stitched among Friends Kim Diehl Jo Morton 9781604689792 Books Reviews

  • Okay, I'll admit right up front that I'm a fan boy (girl) of both Kim and Jo's work. Even with that, I believe many others will really enjoy this book as well.

The book includes 14 table topper / wall-sized quilts. For example, the 6 quilts shown on the book cover (from top to bottom) measure 39" square, 38.5" square, 22.5" x 28.5", 26.5" square, 36.5" square, and 37.5" square. The two largest projects, "Yesterday" measures 55" x 63.5" and Skipping Stones" measures 60.5" x 70.5"

All of the projects are scrappy but with maybe just one exception, the scrappiness doesn't come across as busy or chaotic like sometimes happens with scrappy quilts. Quilt blocks are traditional ones like the Churn Dash, Log Cabin, Turkey Tracks, Ohio Star, Court House Steps, et el, but Kim and Jo have given the blocks variances that are quite appealing. Their changes take the traditional blocks and make them fresh again. For example, the bottom quilt on the book's front cover is a Turkey Track block with a Churn Dash center...it look great!

The instructions are clear and the pictures are very well done. The back of the book includes a few quilt making basics instructions.

All of the projects are doable for confident beginners and above. I think that even an absolute beginner Could be successful completing some of the quilts but they would need to obtain true basic quilting instructions (quilting supplies, rotary cutting techniques, etc.) from other sources.

If I were offered do-overs, would I buy this book again? Most definitely YES!

    I highly recommend this book.
  • As As always her books are awesome .
  • I used it for a gift
  • I love Kim Diehl and Jo Morton!
  • 👍
  • Great Book
  • I have already made a quilt from this book.
  • They really saved the best for last- the sampler quilts in the back of this book are A-mazing!
One unexpected off center classic courthouse steps is really cool. Another favorite is a beautiful green tone quilt like I've never seen before. There are minis sprinkled throughout the book of full size quilts. There is also a fun way to organize strips of fabric featured.
