CAGE THE RAGE WITH CLARITY AND CONFIDENCE.

A relative makes a tactless comment about your child's weight.
The guy behind you on the expressway follows too closely.
Your spouse lets the gas tank go down to empty . . . again.

Getting angry is easy. Daily irritations, frustrations, and pain poke at us. Feelings of disappointment, hurt, rejection, and embarrassment prod in us. And once the unwieldy cluster of emotions of anger are aroused, our thoughts and actions can feel out of control and impossible to manage.

Dr. Gary Chapman, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 5 Love Languages®, offers helpful-and sometimes surprising-insights into why you get angry and what you can do about it. Using real-life stories and practical principles, Chapman explains how you can channel anger in ways that are healthy and productive. You'll also be equipped to help those you love (including your children) deal with their own anger, as well as effectively deal with those long-simmering feelings of anger toward people in your past.

Includes an assessment that will help you discover your personal propensity toward handling anger and how to effectively tame it when it arises.

Anger Handling a Powerful Emotion in a Healthy Way Gary Chapman 9781881273882 Books Reviews

  • I have come across so many people who believe it's wrong and sinful to become angry. So they call it different things, but it's still anger. While I already knew and accepted the idea that anger is a God-given emotion, one of the biggest things I took away from the book is the idea that our ability to get angry is linked to the fact that we are created in the image of God. When we perceive injustice or wrong doing, which may or may not be real legitatmate injustice, we get angry. This anger is purposed to spur us to do positive things. The second major thing I took from the book is the idea that it doesn't matter whether you throw a bomb on a building from the outside or you set a bomb off from the inside of a building, in both situations the building is destroyed. Similarly, when we mishandle anger by exploding (yelling, screaming, fighting, etc.) or imploding (deny we're angry, become passive aggressive, etc.) it can harm us and other people around us. Alternatively, Chapman encourages us to deal directly with the things that make us upset, even when doing so is outside our natural tendencies. I recommend this book for adults and young people.
  • I have never seen anger handled in a healthy way. People seem to either explode with over reaction or deny with under reaction. Both are deadly in relationships. Gary gives straight forward guidelines and teaching on how to handle anger and why God gave us this powerful emotion.

I love the "Quick Take" review at the end of each chapter. Simple numbered steps to take to handle anger in a healthy way. I will be using this book a lot as I learn to stop denying anger and start using it to take constructive action that will improve my relationships. It would also be helpful for those who vent and rage when they are provoked.

This is especially good for logical and analytical thinkers. An easy read with simple lists of how to do it in a healthy way.

There are 13 discussion guides at the back of the book for use if it is being used in a group setting.
  • I am now reading this book and I am in the third chapter and I have begun to implement the practices I am gleaming from Chapman's writing. Dr. Gary Chapman is famous for the 5 Love Languages and he write similar to that style. The reading is light and the chapters appear to be either short or sub-sectioned out well to allow the reader to read the book in "bites" which allows for absorption/meditation. I recommend it for anyone experiencing "ANGER" in their lives.
  • I wish this book would have been around about 25 years ago. Growing up people always say, "don't be angry", but they never tell you how to effectively deal with it. Even as an adult I was still struggling with what to do with my strong emotions. Now do I feel the grace to experience them, the control to effectively manage them, and a peace to know I can do something about it finally. I highly highly highly recommend is book! I have my son, who is 17, also reading it and he is benefiting from the wise words containing within. This book is ideal for someone who has trouble expressing their anger effectively at any age.
  • Bought go the library at our office to assist the personnel in dealing with problems which were occurring in the plant. But they will have to read them to gather the knowledge on how to handle the plant folks.
  • I'm still reading this one-- but so far, so helpful. This book teaches anger as a part of God's image--- but we often live out our anger sinfully. What is causing you to be angry--- is it actually sin that angers you or something not going you way? If it is godly anger, there are different ways to deal with it... a good and biblical view on anger so far.. great for personal use or for help in counseling others
  • This book was very uplifting. It helped me realized why I struggled so much with anger and the explosive behavior I have been experiencing during my life. I have discovered that anger can be control land I can definitively Choose to control my anger, which requires a lot of discipline.
  • Teaches not only that some anger is ok, but justified. It helps you handle, identify, control, and use anger to benefit yourself and others. This is a great book for married people, parents, children, teachers, teenagers, managers, employees, or basically anyone. This is a must to improve your life and the lives of those around you.
