"First, I listened to the audio version of Shadow's Touch, and the narrator does a great job. I'd recommend listening to the audio if you can. I enjoyed the performance.
Really loving the uniqueness in this story! So far, these 2 books have been an entertaining, fun read. This book is the 2nd book in the series, but is actually more of a prequel book. I'd recommend reading the first book before this one, so you can enjoy the mystery of what happened to Violet. This book tells more in depth what Violet was up to before the events of the first book. I enjoyed reading the story unfolding. I do feel kind of sad about some of the events in the 1st book after reading this one though. I also wish there was more development between Violet and the Dark Prince. I really enjoyed their connection, and it felt more genuine than the mystical connection from the first book, so it'll be interesting to see how that story unfolds. Love all the magical, dark and spooky elements to this story! The thing that didn't connect with me was that Violet got on my nerves quite a bit. She was too much of the haughty princess. Way too rude, only thinks of herself, doesn't listen, and even though she says she isn't naïve, she totally is. She also doesn't use her intelligence to her benefit. Multiple times in the book, other characters even mention how dense she is. It was a bit too much at times. Overall, I'm really looking forward to the 3rd book! I find this story engrossing!"

- In book one of the shadow series we were introduced to Violet as a women who've lost so much. The first book had me at the edge of my seat and left me with so many questions... I was practically begging the author for book 2! Now finally book two is here and I was lucky enough to read it in draft format. Wow is all I can say. This series will have you twisted in knots, not knowing who is friend, foe, lover or love. It makes fantasy fiction enjoyable again. Definitely worth the read and the purchase... sit back and enjoy! I know I did )
- The second book tells the backstory of the first book, and their story was great! I couldn't put them down because the plot was so engrossing! I thought it was only a 2 book set, but at the end it mentions a third on the way. This is good because you are left in shock at the end of book 2. The only thing I found a bit annoying were the (few) errors in spelling or grammar (in both books), that a good proof reader should have caught.
- This continuing story is interesting, however its left hanging.

I find this story engrossing! - I want to love this series. I find the characters vivacious, and I'm so curious about the plot that it got me to the second book. But I hate hate the flow of how this series is written, essentially backwards.
It wasn't as noticeable until about 1/3 of the way through that the author specifically chose not to follow normal conventions to have a large/medium reveal early on and then a medium, smaller reveal midway through, with a large/medium reveal at the end depending on how cliffhangery she wanted to be.
No, the first book is no reveal, lots of information, lots of emotion and then a ton of big reveal at the end. It was exhausting to hang on the whole way through in the dark and I was excited that the second book might finally follow an upfront reveal heavy path. But no. Instead it did the opposite, and took place mostly in the past - while still revealing almost nothing.
So while I am incredibly curious as to what the actual plot and set up of this story is, this series isn't written with the care I need to enjoy it, so I've moved on. - 5 stars! I absolutely loved this book. Sometimes when a series has several books it can get a little boring but it's almost like a completely new series and it was just as exciting as the first book. Here's why I say that...
In book one, we meet Violet who has completely lost her memories and has no idea who is she, how she lost her memories, or where she's been. Well in this book we go backwards and get to see where Violet has been and what led her to lose her memories. We find out who violet is, we are introduced to more characters and find out more about current characters. We also find out more the dark prince, get more world building, and see how the dark invaded her.
I thought violet's character was amazing. She was strong, independent, and never took anything sitting down. Strong heroines are always my favorite. The dark prince completely surprised me. Without saying too much, I'll just say that I highly doubt anyone could've guessed what transpires. We learn more about the light, but we also learn more about the dark, and find out maybe it's not all bad.
“In complete darkness, the tiniest of light is powerful. A single ember does not shine amidst the brilliance of the sun. But in the darkest of nights, it will blaze, setting your world afire." - After reading the first book I went directly to the second book. I didn't realize it was going to be more of prologue to the first one but I still really enjoyed learning more of Violet's story.
I'm not gunna lie though... I missed Elijah and I'm so torn on which guy I'm supposed to root for. I think I'm still team Elijah. But I'm sure they could change.
The first book is still my fav but I flew this one and really love the angst between the characters. I love a handsome, dark bad guy who makes you swoon. I need the next book asap! - Wow just wow! What an amazing and brilliant series, I couldn't believe how wonderful this story is. I send my praise to the author because this book had me glued to every word. I have read a lot of books and I always enjoy finding a book that keeps me on my toes. I love the depth of these characters and especially after reading book one, you just change your deception. I can't wait to read the next book which hopefully will be soon. EVERYONE read this.
